I've often had folks ask for "American cheese", and I always hesitate to sound too pompous by saying "It's not exactly real cheese, you know." I usually wind up recommending a domestic cheddar that has a similar color and melts fairly well. Here's

I feel the exact same way about "American cheese". I don't have to worry about folks generally, so I am quite pompous about it.
I feel pretty much the same way about white chocolate. That just ain't chocolate. I will admit that one is more a matter of taste. But really, that ain't chocolate.
